My Passion

I first started writing songs for my young children as I was homeschooling them. As they came upon material that they had difficulty learning, I found that putting it to music helped them memorize in no time. My favorite subject to teach and learn in this way was Bible, and it still is! When I put Scripture verses to music, they come alive in a new way. Memorizing is quick, easy and enjoyable.

I love music, but it is not my passion. My passion is the Lord Jesus Christ.  I began my walk with Him in 1972. Several years later I read The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. In it I read of the possibility of a life lived constantly aware of God's presence. When I tried to put it into practice, however, I would keep getting derailed. This lifestyle became my elusive dream for years.

An amazing thing happened when I put some of my MBS songs on my iPod to work on them. Right in between two worship songs would come Scripture! It was great! As the Word washed my soul I was able to sense God's presence more. Today no iPod is needed as Scripture songs are almost always rolling around in my mind.  Sometimes one verse will speak to me so strongly that I sing it over and over, dwelling on the meaning and communing with my Lord. I find I'm meditating on the Word without even trying. And I'm immersed in His presence.

Yes, the Presence of God. There's nothing like it: to know that He is right here with you. When I lose the sense of His presence, it helps to get into the Word. But the Bible is not always available. I ask, "What do You want me to sing now, Lord?" Holy Spirit will bring a Scripture to mind. Once I've planted an MBS song in my heart by learning it, it's there for Him to bring back to my consciousness. These days, life is an almost-constant communication with the Lover Of My Soul. What a delight!

My passion for Jesus has given me a strong desire to help people hide God's Word in their hearts. The Scriptures are full of the benefits of doing so (see below for examples). In John 15* Jesus calls Himself the Vine and us the branches. Apart from Him we can do nothing. Please try memorizing Scripture (see the How To's page), and then meditate on it as you sing. You just may find yourself abiding in the Vine, practicing His presence, and, amazingly enough, beginning to really live the abundant Christian life!

I am praying that my passion for Christ will become yours, if it isn't already, and that God will richly bless you as you embark on this adventure.

Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV

"Blessed is the man

Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

And in His law he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,

Whose leaf also shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper."

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 NKJV

""And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Psalm 119: 97-99 NKJV

"Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies...I have more understanding than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation."
