Uses for MBS Songs

Praise God with Scripture.

Sing in the shower.

Sing while doing dishes or any household tasks.

Sing quietly or hum and think of the words while waiting on any line (for cashier, etc.).

Teach your children the Word.

Teach Sunday school class.

Play the MBS Game [see the MBS Game page].

Calm down when afraid.

Change your attitude.

Pray and claim promises of God.

Put on the whole armor of God with Ephesians 6.

Meditate on each phrase of an MBS song: Sing one verse or phrase over and over, asking the Lord to enlighten you and speak Truth to you.

Wage spiritual warfare with 2 Corinthians 10, pulling down strongholds such as addiction in loved ones' lives.

Relax and fall asleep.

Evangelize: sing while walking, gardening, etc.

Download several MBS songs onto your laptop/computer and create a file where you can play them over and over (repeat all), and listen to them while exercising or doing anything which uses some mental focus. You will still get the benefit of washing your mind with the Word, even if you can't sing along.

Download one or more MBS songs and then load them onto an iPod/device to listen/review anywhere (especially helpful while learning the verses).

Musicians: Vocalize by singing one verse or phrase and then repeating it, starting one half-step up from it's original starting note, and continuing up (or down) by half-steps. This is also a great way to meditate on a verse.

Break habits with Philippians 4:13, Galatians 5:16, etc.

Keep your mind active as you are aging, and/or help a loved one to do so.

Pass the time.

After you have a song memorized, try quoting the words, just speaking. It may be difficult at first, but keep trying and it will come. Then you can use the Scripture in a conversation without having to sing! Even if you are unable to do this, having the songs in your heart will still have the same benefits described in Psalm 1, Psalm 119, etc.

Start as young as you can. As Lisa Prokopowitz, music therapist, says, "The elderly have trouble with remembering things, but they can often remember songs--especially those they learned years ago."

Disclaimer: None of these songs is meant to be listened to only for listening's sake. The goal is Scripture memory. I could spend lots of time trying to get a perfect "take," staying perfectly on pitch, with perfect quality. I do try to do my best for the Lord and for you. But it's not about performance. I hope when you listen to these songs you will focus on the Word of God. I am merely a vessel for the Lord to use to share that Word with you. To God be the glory always!
